It was so warm this morning when I went out that I had to sit down and take my coat off for twenty minutes. This was good as it gave me a chance to scan the sea in St Ives bay where I saw a Slavonian grebe which seemed to be commuting between Porthminster point and Carbis bay. The only other bird of note in the bay was a Great northern diver.
See my extremely dodgy and highly cropped pic ( of the grebe ).
I also had another attempt at the Black redstart behind the lifeboat station.
Lovely to see these pics - is that habitat usual for the Black redstart?
ReplyDeleteIt is in the winter Lesley, although I've seen them just about everywhere in St Ives. This one seems pretty settled so go and have a look while you can.
ReplyDeleteThe photo of the grebe captures the jizz of the bird well. I'm still jealous about those regular black redstarts of yours! I'm glad you like the look of Vale Royal woods: I've been birdwatching in the valley for over a quarter of a century now. Nuthatches are common there as they are in our garden. Marsh tits though are a difficult bird to see around here, much more so than previously.
ReplyDeleteWell, I've never seen either of those, you are lucky!
ReplyDeleteStill plenty of Redstarts here...but I was tickled pink when I spied a beautiful robin happily tugging at the worms as we dug over the allotment last week.
ReplyDeleteWe were walking along some salt flats 2 weeks ago and saw a...white stork!!! quite a distance away but very exciting!
Hope you and Carol are well
