Nothing out of the ordinary to report this week but there has been some interest in the harbour/island area with a female Eider taking up residence, 3 Purple sandpipers at the Porthmeor end of the island and a regular high tide roost of Dunlin on the rocks just to the North of Bamaluz.
Great northern divers are becoming more visible with a bird quite close to the island this afternoon but it proved difficult to photograph as it would dive at just the wrong moment and then resurface too far away. i have found it problematic photographing birds on the sea. If the light is wrong from where you are standing then you just have to take pot luck as it's not like you can get the other side of the subject without a boat.
A male Kestrel has become a familiar sight hunting around the island

Really lovely pics, so good to see the birds close up as only seen with the naked eye today. Perhaps the the Dunlin were what we saw circling around in a tight, glittering group just above the water?
ReplyDeleteThat's exctly what they would have been Lesley. They would be feeding up the estuary at low tide so I'm not sure why they fly all the way out here to roost at high water.
